Quest for new, affordable art
First off, I'm happy to report that two of my friends discovered the art show and either bought or are actively pursuing new artists and their work! That's the hope of this blog - to connect artists...
I heard from several people how impressed they were with the caliber of the art presented at the fine art show this weekend. It really was a treat especially with the great springtime-in-Austin weather...
Misty is from Frisco TX and works in mixed media. Her lovely warm personality is mirrored in her art. This one is called Trio, 16x20 and $480. You can find more at www.moliverfoster.com

(Stephen with a new piece) You can see more at www.stephendickerson.com and "LIKE" him & stay up to date on Facebook.

I just had a conversation with another friend who's looking for art...and eugh, her office walls are all empty! Here's one I pointed her to. I love this place, but for some reason I don't get down there often enough. The Austin Art Garage is on South Lamar just after Oltorf if you're heading South (behind Strut). Started by a couple of chaps - Jake and Joel, they have lots of interesting work by Austin artists. Very varied, changes frequently and affordable. Here's one of Joel's that I have at home :) It just...
This year was my first organized journey through E.A.S.T and much like SXSW, it takes some homework effort. Even though it was two weekends worth, there was SO much to see that frankly, just like SX you wind up having just enough energy to focus on a few places and hope to see some good stuff. In it's ninth year and with over 300 artists & 150 studios represented, I'm still surprised by how many people I've met who have never heard of it. What is up with that? (above painting by Karen Maness) Great website...
Now THIS was a truly inspiring art show. Held at St. David's Trinity Center over the weekend of November 6-7, the Art from the Streets show is an exhibition and sale of the works by Austin's homeless...
"Where do you find your art?" I've been asked this several times in recent months. It was a question I asked when I first returned to Austin and then spent the better part of a year trying to answer...
